EV Charger Installation in Mumbles

The Brief

A homeowner in Mumbles had taken delivery of an electric vehicle and needed a reliable way to charge it at home. Charging from a standard socket is slow and is not designed for daily use, so the owner wanted a proper Level 2 charge point that would add useful range overnight. As with most existing installations, the property's current fuse board was not suitable for an EV charger, so the job was planned around a new dedicated board for the charger.

What We Did

Our work included:

• Surveyed the property and supply: Checked the incoming supply, the existing board, and the route from the meter position to the parking area so the installation could be planned and priced accurately.
• Fitted a dedicated board for the charger: A new dedicated board was installed for the EV charger, so the charge point runs on its own protected supply rather than relying on the older installation.
• Installed the Level 2 charge point: A Level 2 charger was mounted in a sensible position for the parking space and wired to manufacturer specification.
• Ran the cable neatly: The supply cable was routed cleanly between the board and the charger, keeping the run tidy and unobtrusive with disruption kept to a minimum.
• Tested and commissioned: The dedicated board and charge point were inspected and tested to BS 7671, and the charger was commissioned and its operation confirmed.
• Certified and handed over: The relevant certification was issued and the homeowner was shown how to operate the charger and schedule off-peak charging.

The Result

The property now has a Level 2 home charge point on its own dedicated board, installed safely and certified to BS 7671 by a NICEIC registered, UKAS approved contractor. The cable run is tidy, the charger is commissioned and tested, and the homeowner can charge daily with confidence and schedule cheaper off-peak charging overnight. Where eligible, we also pointed the owner towards the relevant grant guidance.

Job Duration: Completed in a single day from survey through to testing, certification, and handover.
